Mark Making Sketchbook at Art Class

At the start of every Monday Morning Art Class we have a
Mark Making or Drawing warm up exercise.
A fun way to start your week.
This month, May, there is a free sketchbook to draw and
collect these activities in, when you attend the class.
Mark Making stimulates areas of your brain that
encourages exploration and strengthens cognitive
agility and is fun, using tools and mediums that you may
not use often.
(All tools and medium supplied for this activity).

We then get down to enjoying an Art Session using
the medium and muse of your choice.
Lots of help , techniques and advice by Jane.
Once a month there is a Drawing Skill Session
with Sarah Howard a Gold Medal  National Artist.
Sarah is a Botanist and Artist.
She shares her skills, knowledge and techniques.
The next session is June the 6th 2016.
Norfolk Open Studios Week.
The Old Art Room is participating and is open daily for
the two weeks of the event.

Sarah is exploring spirals in nature with
fur cones and pineapples.
So lots of techniques to try.
Book now:)))

Radio Norfolk in the Studio with Treasure Quest

Norfolk Radio with Treasure Quest was in the studio on Sunday.
Anna and Ian raced around the studio to find the clue which I
thought was a hard one to find.

"Look that way at the one with Dad:
Is the name after twos and threes?
At the Ol' Clue one room find those caged.
Although even if not these wouldn't fly free!

Anna was lovely and got distracted by all of the colour and
art around the studio.
We had hidden the clue envelope in the Chinese Bird Cage
with the Paper Cranes Ellen had made on her
Work Experience.
Made a fun morning.
Thank you Julia for nominating us:))))

Visit The Old Art Room, we are preparing for Norfolk Open Studios
which starts at the end of this month.

Circus Window

We had fun making the Circus Window and with all the
circuses coming to town it fitted in.
As you may know there is a circus tent I made from a
folded book to view in Book Folding Displays.

Christmas Fairy In The Window

We all love the Winter White Snowflake Window for the festive season.
.
Khrystal The Fairy is sat on her moon inviting customers, angels and
other fairies into the studio.

I made the Moon out of sheeting, scraps of lace, net curtains, sheer, clothing.
It is heavily embroidered and beaded and sprinkled with sparkle.
More has been added over the weeks in the window.

Khrystal The Fairy was added afterwards and the frothy lace is all in the studio shop window.

Jenn modelled with Khrystal when she visited the studio.

Here are some other Fairies we have had in the studio.

Lisa made this fairy who sat next to the giant cakes on the sofa.
So sedate:))))

Seaside Holiday Window Display

Augusts Seaside and Holiday theme has been well received by
customers, visitors and window viewers.
The backdrop was a quilt I did many years ago for Uni and has
plastic which protected the conservatory window panels!
It was the right shade of blue!
Jo's Beach hut cushion hints to her wonderful Exhibition
inside the studio, there are cards and prints available too!
Jellyfish made with victorian glass bowls, celery vases, plastic and
iridescent thread.
Cheryl made the freeform crochet and Jack made the
paper coral.
Jill who is a resident artist and tutor in the studio
made the paper boat.
Mr Robin looks on peering inside the
'Shades of Blue Nest'.
While the mannequin guys are having fun.

and Autumn.

Enchanted Nest For The Window

It's fun every month sorting out the window display and we have
had so much support and encouragement from visitors and passers by.
 We are"making stories"in our window.
They are becoming real Diorama's.
They depict the studio 'Inspiration of the Month'
and evoke the change within the studio with displays
and Exhibitions.

The Enchanted nest was one of three which we have made for the
window to continue the story of our Robin.
it contains a Golden Egg, far to big for a robin!
He had his nest inside a gilded cage.
You had to open the door for him to be able to go in!

Each month a little boy and his Nan look for the
Robin and his nest in the new window display.
This months inspiration is 'The Sea and Holidays'
so, here is the Robin looking into
his nest inside a rather sea worn nest.

A you can see we are having far to much fun making displays:))
I think the nest is a symbol that we are all quite happy in our
new studio home.

Thank you to Ellen for the beautiful photos.
