Advent Calendar for Henry

Henry will be One on the 24th of December.
Irene was kind enough to make this wonderful
Advent Calendar for him.

More Shibori Felting

I love Shibori Felting once you remove the buttons.
The felt looks so organic.
It is now ready for embroidery and beading.

Paper Making

We made lots of paper in the studio.
Of course you have to add items, in the top
photo the honesty is beautiful.

Shibori Felting

The beginnings of Shibori Felt making.
I held a course for six weeks and this was the beginning process.
Students dyed their silk.
Layered alpaca fleece and dyed fleece on the back.
Felted and then buttoned and then re-felted with wisps
of fleece.
Re- felted and then embroidered and beaded.
A long process but made in a fine art way.
I have refined some of the techniques to make it
an enjoyable process.

Thimble Wreath

As some of you know I am creating a Wreath each month to
celebrate what comes into the studio and add an unusual art display
for The Old Art Room.
Old china thimbles, they were interesting to look at and was a challenge
to attach to the polystyrene ring.

Painting Plums

Monday morning 10am until 12.15 in The Old Art Room Studio is Art,
we cover many medias and many different subjects.
I give tuition as a group and individually as everyone has their
favourite subjects.
I bring in different objects and materials are available in the studio to try.

Sylvia's Hexagon Quilt

Sylvia was given a selection of the hexagons already made
into flowers and she didn't want to go the traditional route
of just joining them together so inspired by a quilt Suze had made she
made the hexagon flowers into blocks to form her quilt.

Go Create Children's Art Club

In July we made art boards using
'The Hungry Caterpilla' as inspiration.
I have taught these boards over many years and they are
really fun as you can see.
Lots of the parts are moveable so wobbly about
causing lots of giggles and fun.

Speckled Shibori Fabric

Here are some of the photos of my Shibori dyed fabric.

Christmas Star Table Runner

Irene has finished another Ohio Star Christmas Runner.
We all loved the Scandinavian style fabric.

Transfer Dyeing

With July and August being the month for paper making, dyeing fabric and
felt making. I am demonstrating many ways to
explore these with many different techniques.
Transfer dyeing is a fun way of colouring
man made fabrics.
We use transfer paints and crayons
and different ways of applying them.
Above, shows some of the ways of using them.

Paper Dress Challenge

There were work experience students in the studio during July.
I set art challenges everyday as well as the students being part
of the daily creating in sessions.
The Challenge for Monday was to make a Paper Dress,
that could be worn and be used as part of  the August Display.
They were a little out of the time frame but the result is a
spectacular dress.
Well done!

Paper Articulated Snake

The Children at 'Go Create' had a wonderful time making paper
and then made their own articulated snakes a smaller version
of the one made for the wall display.
They all had fun wriggling them round the studio.

Go Create Children Making Paper

July's 'Go Create' Children's Club made paper with
different coloured paper pulp, using cookie cutters as moulds.
The moulds of paper are built up over a wire mesh.
The green pulp was re-named by Stewart as
'Shrek Snot' oooooo!
They had a great time and so did the Grandmas.
The children also made articulated Paper Snakes while their
paper was drying.

Star Quilt

Heather Anne has just finished this amazing Star quilt
made oiut of a Jelly Roll and 2 metres of pink fabric.
The Stars were adapted from a Jelly Roll book.
The Blocks were made as a 'Quilt As You Go'.
I just love to see quilts on the big table in The Old Art Room.

Bauble Christmas Banner

Christmas in August!
Myself and several people I know work on Christmas Projects
all year round because some take time to work on and get ready.
Iren is no exception.
She is known as a 'Mrs Christmas' because of this.
This is one of her Bauble Hangings.
Adapted from a pattern got at a Quilt Show.

Dyeing Fabric

August is always the month I dye fabric, make paper and enjoy
felt making due to the weather to get projects dry.
Our English weather has been a little erratic this year and
drying work has been difficult at times but lots have been created.
I use various techniques to get different results.
When fabric is now glorious colours,
its then deciding what to do with it.
Combining photo transfer is a great way.

House Leeks

My House Leeks needed re-planting as they had outgrown a dish at home so
I transplanted some of them into a lovely ceramic bowl which I normally
use for decoration. It is so organic in appearance and lended itself
quite nicely to being potted up. Lots of grit and pebbles to give plenty of
drainage.
Took it into The Art Room and several students decided it was just right to
draw and paint.

Indigo and Shibori Wall Hanging

I finished the top Indigo and Shibori Wall Hanging
while I was on my week off.
It contains many different squares of my
Indigo Shibori samples that I have made over the last
few years.
It is now part of the display in the studio.
I have started another one (second photo)
with more of the Shibori techniques.
