This quilt was inspired by a new Grand Daughter that is just a month old when I write this post.
A Grand Dad to be who just happens to be an Artist and Writer asked me if there was any way photos and drawings could be transferred onto fabric to make a gift for his daughter, Son In Law and new baby Grand Daughter?
A Grand Daughter who was to be born at the end of July in Australia. Visit planned to deliver said gift in the middle of September so time of the essence.
When he told me the story of 'Twizzle Bump', the affectionate name for said 'bump' and what he wanted to include I was up for the challenge.

Over several weeks of planning, painting pictures, collecting fabrics and transferring photos onto a photo fabric. Excitement Grew as Baby Coral was born and those photos could be added to the design.
I over the years have transferred many photos etc onto fabric in many different ways and this prepared fabric is the best for endurance so it can be washed and lasts.

It was then a matter of patch working all the pieces together and interpreting the significance of each photo and matching it up with appropriate fabrics and the location within the design.

Swans of Perth, Australia where Coral was born

The morning sky in space the time she was born

A Kangaroo and Joey in pouch

the flags of the parents Britain and Australia

Dyeing Fabric

August is always the month I dye fabric, make paper and enjoy

felt making due to the weather to get projects dry.

Our English weather has been a little erratic this year and 

drying work has been difficult at times but lots have been created.

I use various techniques to get different results.

When fabric is now glorious colours, 

its then deciding what to do with it.

Combining photo transfer is a great way.

Kim's Photo Transfer Cushion

Kim transfered a photo of her Great Grand Mother ,Grandmother, Mother and Sister.

Kim had collected some beautiful chinoiserie fabric and some silks.

Along with some printing on a Printing of music, sewing machine and a tree.

Her Grand Mother was a Tailor. Music was important to all of them

These she assembled and sewed together. On to the tree she stitched the names of the ladies, using the machine stitched letters. Such a lovely touch. 

Photo Transfer Africa

Val chose pictures of her daughter when she was working in Africa to use

on a photo transfer workshop.

These work really well with the animal and jungle prints.

Photo Transfer Cushions

We have prepared lots of photos in the studio onto fabric and I just

love seeing the results. 

Here, Sylvia a Grand Ma and Great Grand Ma has made them into 

cushions for her Grand Children.

Accordion Book using Photo Transfer

Those that saw the post for Photo Transfer, saw the photos Laurie used to make this

Accordion Book. The photos are of her Mother, Aunt and Mother's Cousin.

Photo Transfer onto Fabric

We have also transferred photographs onto fabric this month. We have loved hearing the stories behind the photos and the reasons for using them.
The three ladies in the photos above are Laure's Mother, Aunt and Second Cousin. All grew up together and loved hats. The stack of photo transfer at the bottom are Freda's travels around the world.

Sophie's Photo Transfer

Both Sophie's who are going to be doing work experience in the studio 

in July came along to try Photo Transfer.

Both had photos that they wanted to add to their art portfolio's.

Thank you Heatheranne for bring fabric into the studio as it was 

sorted out immediately and used in this project.
Sophie also made a Shabby Chic flower out of an
old net curtain. Looked really antique.
