Art Class Monday Morning

Monday Morning Art Class in the studio starts with Mark Making.
Every week it is different and opens up discussion on
how the marks relate to Art and Artist.
Mark Making is a really good way of opening different areas of the brain.
Isaac who was participating in Work Experience last week
from Swaffham Hammonds Academy, tried one of the Circle Techniques
using a toy truck tyre and a paint brush without its brush.
(Work Experience is available all year round)
We then go into individual mediums such as water colour, acrylics, collage etc.
Drawing is vital and Jane teaches lots of ways to get good results.
The Piano hands were drawn by Lena with lots of tips and encouragement.
Sarah our Drawing Skills Tutor and Gold Award Winner is
teaching 'Light on Dark' on the 18th of July.
Sessions are £10 and are from 10-12.15 ever Monday.

Mark Making Sketchbook at Art Class

At the start of every Monday Morning Art Class we have a
Mark Making or Drawing warm up exercise.
A fun way to start your week.
This month, May, there is a free sketchbook to draw and
collect these activities in, when you attend the class.
Mark Making stimulates areas of your brain that
encourages exploration and strengthens cognitive
agility and is fun, using tools and mediums that you may
not use often.
(All tools and medium supplied for this activity).

We then get down to enjoying an Art Session using
the medium and muse of your choice.
Lots of help , techniques and advice by Jane.
Once a month there is a Drawing Skill Session
with Sarah Howard a Gold Medal  National Artist.
Sarah is a Botanist and Artist.
She shares her skills, knowledge and techniques.
The next session is June the 6th 2016.
Norfolk Open Studios Week.
The Old Art Room is participating and is open daily for
the two weeks of the event.

Sarah is exploring spirals in nature with
fur cones and pineapples.
So lots of techniques to try.
Book now:)))

Japanese Teapot in Watercolour

I love setting up objects on the Still Life Table and then
students choose what they are inspired by.
It gets me excited with the techniques that can be tried
with the different objects.
This Japanese teapot had lots of brush techniques involved.

Pencil Drawing, Oil Bottle and Lemon Still Life

At Monday Art Class there are always items on display to be inspired by.
The class is for beginners to those who want to come along and
improve their techniques.
Drawing in a sketchbook and keeping notes is a great way to
grow and 'get your eye and hand in'.

Surreal Landscape

On a Monday Art Class we cover all different types of painting
media and techniques.
Keran  produced this Surreal landscape.
Listening to music and painting what she felt.
We all love the dream like quality it has.

Blue Lily Abstraction

Monday morning in the studio is Mixed Media Art.
I demonstrated how to prep canvas and add base colour.
Adding mediums, textures.
This is after a few hours, it is inspired by the Water Lilies I saw at
Kew Gardens last year.
I have abstracted the stems and shapes.
Many more hours to paint:)

Fun With Painting on Canvas

With all sessions within The Old Art Room, I make sure that
students and visitors are kept inspired. One of the Art Sessions this month
I gave the challenge of painting onto flat canvas, putting paint of your choice
onto a palette and going for it!
I think Keran was inspired by all the flowers around the studio and we have found
out since that her favourite base colour was for paintings is Yellow!
As you can see it is a very vibrant painting and is on the wall of the studio.
I love the light in the studio due to the windows being on both sides.

India Inspiration Prep At The Old Art Room

Gill and I came into The Art Room on the 8th of January and laid out
all the Indian Inspired Textiles I have gathered, brought, made and borrowed.
It looked amazing and we could already see the studio full of
colour and sparkle.
I wanted to portray a little of what we had experienced on our travels but
also the sparkle of my sketchbook.
